Friday Five

1.  I BIKED TO WORK TODAY!!!!  Sorry, just a little bit excited about the fact that I actually finally did it (made it here in one piece).  I don't think it's something I'm going to do every day, but hopefully I can ride a few days a week.  It definitely makes sense if I go down to Hains before work to ride.  Why head back out of DC to get changed and then come back in for work on Metro?

2. Happy National Donut Day!  I hope you all are able to celebrate.  I did, by starting my day with this:

3.  I was glad to hear that I am not the only person who has no idea how to do anything with their bike other than ride it (and I don't even do that all that well sometimes)!  Thanks for all of your supportive comments on my post, I feel a little less embarrassed about my panic attack on Saturday night!  I did go buy a basic book on bike maintenance and repair (what can I say, I'm a librarian) and will be keeping my eye out for some kind of class I could attend.

4. I have a feeling I'll be trying on bike shoes somewhere this weekend.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  As with all things bike related, I have no idea what I should be looking for and I find all the options somewhat overwhelming!

5.  My hated (and sometimes loved) Asics 2150s finally have enough miles to be retired!  It's always fun debuting a new pair, especially when they are Carolina blue! :)  For now I'll just be using two pairs of the NB 760s, but I have been debating getting a pair of 2160s to switch things up.

Def. Go into a bike store to try the shoes on. They will fit you and also have you ride in the trainer. Then after that you can order online :) also take a look at the ones with the rotary closure. They are easy to get one and off.

Yay! Congrats on biking to work!

I have speedplay pedals and love them. For shoes, I just picked the cheapest with velcro closures and they've been great.

New shoes are always so much fun! And that feeling of 'accomplishment' when you get to retire old ones. Hope you enjoyed the donuts!!!

Congrats on biking to work! I used to bike to work when I lived and worked in Bethesda, but now that I live in VA I am too far. However, my agency is moving to Springfield this summer so I hope to start biking more often once I'm done with school and am back at work!

As far as bike shoes, are you talking about actual clip in shoes? If so I highly recommend either speedplay pedals/shoes or getting mountain bike shoes (because mine are not mountain bike shoes and I hate walking around on shoe clips and apparently every road bike I know has mountain bike shoes...I still dont' understand that one...lol:).

I might have asked you this already, but what size shoe are you? I have 2 brandnew pairs of NB 760s, size 10, that I'm not going to be wearing.

also, Spokes Etc in Alexandria is AWESOME. love those guys. I recommend Speedplay zero pedals and whatever shoes feel good on your feet!

nice job on the bike commute! i don't know why i don't do it, i'm like 6 miles from work, ha. as for pedals, i highly recommend these:

http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-PD-A530-Dual-Platform-Pedal/dp
/B002NVJEOM/ref=pd_sim_sg_4

they're dual sided, so you can clip in with bike shoes, or ride with regular shoes if you want. they use mountain bike cleats, but i actually find them easier to clip in/out of vs. road cleats and are easier to walk in, too. as for shoes, i have a pair of pearl izumi trifly and like them.
